Imposing self misery

Well, sacking of Luiz Felipe Scolari on 9th Feb 2009 pretty much rounds up the Chelsea story for the season. One thing is very clear form this incident. To be a Chelsea fan one has to be either a domiciled loyalist or a citizen of an underdeveloped country who might find the word " bridge" amusing, may be because he has always dreamt of one, probably for commuting between his village & U.N. run school separated by a river.
I regret to say this but i too was a blue brigade fan once, however now i feel that club has lost its identity.Initially as a 9th grader i started supporting the club only because i felt that at start of every season the club could give any team a run for their money but due to lack of finances & limited squad strength often faltered on way to finish line. However things changed in June 2003 when Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took over the reigns of club for a whooping £140 million. I welcomed the change & results also followed with Chelsea became the fifth English team to win back-to-back league championships since the WW-II (2004–05 and 2005–06), in addition to winning an FA Cup (2007) and two League Cups (2005 and 2007).The key to this success story was not the sudden spurge in spending ability of club but a well knit unit with formidable bench strength. However, by the end of 2007 season the demons of money became quite evident as club management became intolerant towards failures & somehow thought that selling players, buying big names in Europe was the way to move ahead.Prominent cracks started emerging in once well knit unit with William Gallas's show of dissent & fall of famous defense wall comprising of terry, makalele & Gallas. In no time Crespo was loaned out to A.C. Milan,Guðjohnsen was sent packing to Barca.Wingers like Arjen Robben,Damian Duff & midfielder of the likes of Scott Parker suffered the same fate.Disowned by the very club they worked so hard to establish. What came about was a completely new line up with big stars of the likes of Ballack,Sheva & now Deco. Besides this, it seems that most of the stars were brought on board just to sell off the merchandise of which Andriy Shevchenko is a perfect example.
With big stars, Chelsea now represents no unique style of football but serves more of what they think is a cocktail. However the fact remains that the varying densities tastes great in a bar but not over a football pitch. One would rather prefer to watch school team practice over a pathetic night of West London football. The current line up has in defence players like Alex who seem to dose off just when the ball is in their half,Deco in midfield keeps lobbing the ball forward forgetting that he is not at Bacra & Anleka is not a twin brother of Messi,Ballack is often too caught up with himself & Anelka know only one thing, tap ins. Still there are senior players like lampard,Terri etc who can makes thing work for the club but then they have to be taken into confidence by the club management & it definitely doesn't help when players are constantly being shuffled around & managers are more like the lining along the pitch which is replaced after every season if not every match. If performance is the only criteria then what crime did Evram Grant commit? Just a moderately bad season isn't a reason enough for not acknowledging the contributions of self proclaimed god, Jose Mourinho.
With huge dip in crude oil prices Roman Abramovich, who is desperate for some kind of success on any front has outdone himself. He finally has some silverware to showcase in form of the worst blues given to Chelsea which neither the red devils nor the red brigade from anfield were able to achieve. This guy is in need of some professional help which he should seek immediately. Otherwise those days are not far away when the club would again be acquired by someone like Ken Bates for the nominal sum of £1 & Chelsea would have to wait another 24 years to get hands on any silverware at all.

  1. Dude,
    So true!
I am a blue fan myself but yes i have to agree on the fact that chelsea needs to build a team and not just buy players. Before scolari could even get time to make his team and synchronize it he was fired.
I think Abrahamovic needs to give time to whomsoever becomes in-charge now.
I hope we can bring back some of the lost glory again!!!

    True Blue Always!
